what is heirs care?
Blondena’s HEIRS supports African American families through every stage of property inheritance and legacy planning with responsive programming including community conversations, mediation, storytelling, education, and advocacy. HEIRS stands for Heritage, Equity, Inheritance, and Resources for Sustainability.
The HEIRS Care Program is an initiative of Blondena’s HEIRS that provides home rehabilitation support for HEROs. HEROs are Historically Excluded Real Estate Heirs & Owners.
HEIRS Care prioritizes properties:
- HERO-owned for 1 or more generations
- Owned by HEROs over the age of 65
- Properties within 3 miles of neighborhoods with majority-HERO homeownership.
Why HEirs care?
We believe a small repair can make a big difference.
For some homeowners, a fallen branch, broken step, damaged fence, or minor repair isn't simply an inconvenience. It can become a safety concern, an overwhelming expense, or one more thing they don't have the physical ability or resources to handle.
Our goal is to bring neighbors, volunteers, skilled professionals, businesses, and community partners together to provide the helping hands and resources homeowners need to maintain safe, stable, and valued homes.
We are starting with 1–5 households—but our vision is much bigger: to build a sustainable community network where people don't have to face these challenges alone.

Volunteer-led services focused on cleaning, curb appeal, organization, and basic cosmetic improvements.
- Lawn and yard cleanup
- Exterior home cleanup
- Weeding, mulching, and basic landscaping
- Low shrub trimming and removal of dead vegetation
- Porch, walkway, and driveway cleanup
- Interior deep cleaning
- Garage, basement, and attic cleanup/organization
- Interior painting
- Paint touch-ups
- Minor wall patching and cosmetic repairs
- Basic caulking
- Cabinet and hardware cleaning
- Replacing cabinet and drawer hardware
- Installing blinds, curtain rods, and other non-structural items
- Replacing light bulbs
- Replacing smoke-detector batteries
- Basic curb-appeal improvements
Tier 2: Home Improvement Partners
Skilled, specialized, or licensed services provided by trusted partner organizations and professionals.
